Drug Rehab Success - David's Story
"I grew up in Southern California, the son of a prominent
television celebrity. I went to private schools with other celebrity
kids and got into drugs at an early age. By the time I was 16, I was
freebasing cocaine and popping quaaludes almost every day and night.
Within one year I was living on the streets and selling drugs to
other Hollywood celebs in order to feed my huge habit.
I entered my first treatment center before turning 17. I was
diagnosed with a failing liver, and after 6 weeks of detox entered a
90-day 12-step program. Upon graduation, I got a sponsor, worked
some steps and went to meetings, but soon the cravings took hold and
I was back on drugs again.
I spent the next 25 years in this vicious cycle of recovery and
relapse. I would enter treatment, stay sober 6 months, 9 months, 1
year--sometimes as long as 18 months, then have always have a worse
relapse when I succumbed to the drug craving.
I couldn't understand it! I did everything I was supposed to
do--I went to meetings every day, sometimes twice a day; I worked
all 12 steps; I had a sponsor; I worked with others; I prayed and
asked God to remove my cravings. By the end, I knew more about
recovery than my counselors, but I could not stay clean!
After escaping a 3-year conviction by doing 90 days in L.A.
County Jail and another six- month treatment program, I decided that
the answer for me would be to devote my life to recovery. I became
an intake counselor for a large treatment center in Culver City,
became a trained Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and also
became a trained interventionist.
I was clean for almost two years before the cravings took over.
Only now, not only was I smoking crack cocaine, but had picked up a
crystal meth habit as well and truly was wasting away.
By now I was close to my 40th birthday and had truly given up
hope. I had been to all the best treatment centers in the world and
was deemed a "successful" graduate and alumni of 14 centers!
This is when a doctor referred me to this program. Upon
contacting them I learned that they had a non-traditional scientific
method for releasing drug residues from the body, thus helping to
eliminate drug cravings. On July 14, 2004, I entered my 15th
treatment center not really expecting much.
Much to my surprise, within just a few short months, through a
program of diet, exercise, vitamins, and quite a bit of sweating in
the sauna, the years of drug residues were dislodged and released
from my body. This center had accomplished what no other center
had done--the drug cravings were forever removed from me!
This course of action was followed by a series of life skills
courses that address many underlying issues of addiction and which
gave me the tools I needed to prevent another relapse.
The program saved my life and gave me back my family!
Part of what I have done in the two years since my graduation
includes volunteer work in Asia after the tsunami disaster, and also
in New Orleans after the Katrina disaster. I can now truly give
back!
Currently, I am working as a field representative and
interventionist for the program. My success rate is over 80%! I love
knowing that my work now is truly saving the lives of others!
Most recently, I was instrumental in starting the Youth for a
Drug Free Florida group. I wanted to work with teens because I
believe the drug prevention message is more real coming from peers .
My plan is to have youth groups all over the USA by the end of 2007.
There's no stopping me now!"
