Drug Rehab Success - R.T.s Story
"I am a 27 year old functional, successful, honest, and happy
person. However, let me warn you ahead of time that this was not
always the case and from a result of my addiction to drugs and
alcohol that these qualities and characteristics would be forever
elusive in my life and impossible to regain. I spent 15 years
breaking the law, abusing drugs and alcohol, lying, cheating, and
just living generally a very crooked life. Although I was living
with criminal decisions and intended dishonesty, somehow I managed
to still do really well in my interests and pursuits. However,
because of my terrible actions and choices, I was unhappy and I
justified my addictions. Deep down in my heart I knew what I was
doing and the way that I was living was wrong.
Nonetheless, I got to the point where I stopped caring about the
most important things in my life like my family, my career, and
pretty much everything that was good and that I loved in my life. My
heroin, cocaine, and meth addictions grew worse and worse as time
passed and the status and successes that I had worked so hard in my
life to obtain dwindled away until hardly any of them remained. But
although I knew that I had a problem, I still chose to use as much
and as often as I could. I told myself that I liked the feeling of
being "high." The path that I had chosen to walk was dark,
deceitful, and full of misery, yet I somehow coerced myself into
such an existence. And for years, that is where I remained...
ruining a loving relationship with a significant other, alienating
myself from a tight-knit family, damaging a society that only wanted
the best for me and from me, risking my freedom, risking my LIFE!!
Finally, I realized that I needed treatment and I sought out some
help. However, the different programs that I tried would work for a
short period of time but I would always end up relapsing. It was so
frustrating... I wanted to change but thought that I would be stuck
in the cycle of addiction for the rest of my life! At the very best,
I thought that maybe I would be able to quit but that in the back of
my mind I would always "miss" the feeling of being high.
When I first heard about the program, it sparked an interest right
away. Here was a program that was not like the other programs that
had failed in the past. Here was a program where you were not "in
recovery" or an "addict" for the rest of your life. Here was a
program where you were not "powerless" over your addiction, but you
could actually learn how to be armed with the tools of knowledge
that empowered a person to CHOOSE not to use drugs. Here was a
program that eliminated the cravings and specialized in keeping
recovered persons form relapsing. Here was a program that directed a
person to exercise, to nutrition, to vitamins and minerals. Here was
a program that cleaned up a person both mentally and emotionally.
This was the kind of program that I had been looking for.
Coming to the program was the best decision that I have ever made in
my life. I cannot say enough about the program. The atmosphere and
the environment there is comfortable. And the staff there... never
in my life have I come across an organization where the people care
more about what they are doing and the cause they are fighting for.
The program itself is truly remarkable. The detoxification and
purification aspect of the program did eliminate the cravings, but
in addition it eliminated most every toxin from my body! My IQ
skyrocketed, I slept well at night again for the first time in
years, and I felt like I was 17 again instead of 27!!
The last part of the program was extremely educational. You do not
need to be a drug addict to get a ton out of the life skills therapy
in this program. In fact, one of the courses is called the effective
learning course which teaches ANYONE to better understand, retain,
and apply knowledge.
This program has changed my life forever. Although I know that I
cannot change the past, I feel like I have a clean slate now that
allows me to be most successful and effective in my life. By living
a good and decent life and always looking for an opportunity to help
others, I CAN make up some of the damage that I did in the past.
Now, I am honest and morally and ethically upright. I have made my
family proud. I have a fantastic job with much responsibility in
which I am entrusted to make huge decisions on behalf of many people
multiple times a day. I am healthy and continue with a regimen of
exercise, nutrition, and vitamins and minerals... I feel so good
physically and mentally.
I look people directly in the eye and am not afraid to provide my
input or back up my beliefs in any given situation. I am doing the
right thing, living the right life, choosing the right choices...and
it feels SO good! And do I miss the feeling of getting high? No way.
Now that I wake up in the morning every day feeling refreshed, now
that I am capable of being trusted and responsible, now that I am in
the position to fully recognize my true potential, my substance
abuse issue has really become a non-issue. I can say in all honesty
and sincerity that I am fully recovered.
Sometimes I must ask myself, what in the world was I thinking? But
the past is gone and the present and future have been given back to
me to thrive in. Of course, I must thank everyone from the program
with every ounce of my being for caring, for helping, and for
eradicating the drug problem from my life and from the lives of
thousands of others! For now, not only am I better... but now I am
better than ever!!"
