Drug Addiction and its Effect On Society
Drug and alcohol addiction are diseases that will not only negatively impact the addict but will affect their families, their communities and the entire society as a whole.  The spread of drug addiction in our communities has grown more rapidly than a wild fire in a dry forest. The cost of drug rehab is much more affordable than allowing this plague to continue.  Society has had to incur the cost of drug addiction through work places paying for a drug and alcohol rehab program for their employees, loss of work time due to addiction, and decreased productivity at work.  This all affects our economy.

The economy may not have seen the struggle a decade ago, where drug addicts and alcoholics were usually street vagrants and offered no real place in stabilizing or de-habilitating our economy. Today, however the drug addiction is widespread to those who do uphold the integrity of our economy; politicians, doctors, teachers, lawyers, there is no one who is safe from addiction in today’s society according to the drug addiction statistics.

We have found that doctors cannot always be trusted to have our best interest at heart when it comes to prescribing medication. In the recent case of Michael Jackson’s death we all got a firsthand look at how reckless ones behavior can become, even with fame and fortune and the love of millions of fans. Doctors who prescribe medication to their patients are supposed to be monitoring them and making sure they are only using the required dosage, the goal should be to be taken off medication as soon as possible. Instead long term medication becomes addictive and doctors simply up the script amount when the body grows immune to the affects.

A drug rehab clinic should offer a way to detox your body, not fill it with more drugs, a natural detox is the only safe way to remove the chemicals from your system and not be at risk of becoming addicted or dependant on another toxin. The recent light of events has proven that just because we are prescribed our medication does not mean we are not addicts, it does not protect us from addiction and we are just as capable of needing an addiction recovery center for help as the people you see on the streets begging for money.  The only difference between us and them is that we have medical insurance, prescriptions and a doctor’s approval.
